LEARN MORE ABOUT TRAUMA INFORMED PRACTICES

Meet Tracey Young

🌟 Hi, I’m Tracey! 🌟

I’m a wife, mum, and proud Nanna.

My life journey has not been easy. Throughout most of my life I have struggled with low self-worth, emotional pain and I never felt ‘good enough’. I was on a road of self-destruction —often feeling angry, anxious, depressed, and disconnected from others. I ‘coped’ by people-pleasing, procrastinating, isolating myself, trying to achieve perfectionism in everything I did and expressed my pain through tears, it was exhausting! But I still couldn’t change how I was feeling, it was as if something kept pulling me into destructive behaviours that I could not control. I was constantly living in ‘flight, flight, freeze' mode and cortisol was continually being released within my body. I went on to develop conditions like Type 2 diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis and had a past battle with breast cancer.

Eventually, I did something about it because I wanted to understand why I felt and behaved in the way I did and why I was always feeling physically unwell. I started to explore the impact of unresolved childhood trauma and what nervous‑system dysregulation was. This was when everything started to make more sense to me. I started to understand that my behaviours were as a result of a domestic abusive relationship, sexual harm and my childhood experiences.

I learnt that my behaviours weren’t failures—they were adaptations and protective strategies! I realised that I was not broken – my behaviours make sense! They were shaped by experiences I didn’t choose.  Understanding this, was the key to making positive changes in my life. I’ve worked hard and continue to do so to heal, grow, and rediscover my worth and am now able to recognise when old behaviour patterns resurface and can manage them without shutting down.

Today, I’m passionate about supporting others on their own journey. I share my story to show that you can overcome self-destructive behaviours and develop your own self worth and wellbeing.

If you’re on a journey of healing, self-discovery, or simply want to understand how trauma is shaping your life, then reach out to me because you’re not alone, it is possible to make those positive changes.
